10th March 2012: Madame 60!

Growing up as a Chinese myself; I simply love big birthday celebrations! The yearly birthday celebration is what I refer as the "small celebrations" in life. Its the stage that reminds us that we're getting older, responsibilities grows and endless encounters (and more is yet to come)

However, the big celebrations in life is always a blessing, longevity, a celebration made up of love and not forget me not. It's a blessing and bliss to be up and still walking, healthy and fit. Back in the Chinese mythology, peaches were fruits that were served as an extravagant banquet to ensure god's and deities everlasting existence. Therefore, one of the reason why peaches were on this cake as a theme is to represent longevity. Although, it may require thousands of year for magic peaches to grow. Here at Sweet Tooth - we hand make each and every precious peach. And I'm so flustered when I was told that my client actually bite the peaches off the tree!

Life is the one thing I could never describe with just plain words. For that, I would never wish bad things to happen to people around me. I hereby wish everyone good health and life for reading this entry!

As the Chinese saying goes "Everything good comes in pairs"

The couple smile in pair as they hold the significant number "60". If you notice, madame has got a peach on her palm. That tells you whose birthday it is!

29th Feb 2012: The Leap

She was really excited and nervous as it's the first time she ordered via online especially for custom made cakes. We conversed through email and sms and that was it. Final design was entirely up to us. Meanwhile all she requested was Saxophones and something special as she only got to celebrate with her husband 4 years once. Saxophones, music and it was a high school musical activity. We wanted something memorable for both she and her husband. Hence, the team decided on this - the birthday man in a dark suit playing a note. Something that matches the theme incredibly.

Team is glad that at the final conclusion. Client was very satisfied with the art work.
Thumbs up!!

25th Feb 2012: Crazy about Chanel!

It must be some kind of fashionista week or something as inquiries for designer edibles seemed to be the sudden itch. I've got to thank my friend Dear Phing Yin for ordering again. It's a very glad feeling knowing that close friends remembers you when they want to order a cake or something fancy for others. So here goes, after much discussion - the team decides on this beautiful combination.

25th Feb 2012: My First Mickey!

This is certainly one of the days I'd blog about. Everything went so well till my client pointed out a misplace in the alphabetical order! But I'm so thankful that she's been very understanding. I told her how to place the alphabets back in order and at that point of time. The next time delivery is made (except for the outsource delivery) I'd bring along my edible glue and knife!

Mickey mouse has always been a favorite in every kids. There's no doubt why mummy Yvonne would order a Mickey to celebrate Kaa Haw's birthday (This time i got the name right)
I love kid's cake. It's vibrant and always fun to do. I bet my partner in crime agrees to that.

Conclusion to the chaos: Mummy Yvonne managed to get the name under control. All compliments went to the Mickey and it's theme. Thank you Yvonne for giving our team a wonderful chance to please another happy client!

22nd Feb 2012: Every Chanel is a girl's best friend!

This is the perfect gift and edible for a fashionista. It's definitely way more affordable compared to a real bag! But hey, it's a 2-1 combination! You get to eat and own your very Chanel!

Everyone's been giving out great compliments to this edible bag! They loved the details - it looked so real and yet it was super yummy! We had the chains hand made sector by sector and painted it with edible gold (oh yeah.. it's gold!)

Launching our new frosting:
Cake is of orange butter with lime cheese sandwiching! It's a new combination of bursting flavors in the taste buds!

19th Feb 2012: Bunny on a little pond

Themes themes themes! I often stand in the crossroad of working with reality VS imagination when it comes to cake themes. I get a little fickle minded at times and yes - I love my job! I love my work and I love the versatility to be able to fickle around with designs. Happy Birthday to Little Jing Hee! A little luvette born in the year of a Bunny.

11th Feb 2012: A Floral Birthday!

It's been such a crazy week at work and considering things have been really tight at ST. My partner in crime and I have been really over the clock! Even so, we took in the order introduced by my dear friend Asther.

Lydia wanted something for her grandma's 83rd birthday. Something floral, not too conservative and pastel in pink and violet. We only had 2 days to produce the cake and finalize the design! Sugar flowers requires a little patience when it comes to drying and yet we wanted to give our client the extra mile. How? Hehe.. We have our way.

Conclusion, client was so happy with the cake. She said the design was so beautiful and the taste of the cake was so good. More to say, she was impressed with the last minute ability to come up with a tasteful and pretty cake.

4th Feb 2012: Two Become One

It’s always the figurines that draw my attention. In comparisons with the other sugar work; figurines are the ones that catches my attention and holds my patience to a better score. My preference is definitely the female against the male. It’s always the brides that get the centre of attention. Dressing a bride is always fun; I let my imagination run a little and I get to turn my sugar figurines into fashionista. So, when the bride had no idea and let me run the pose and colour scheme – I was flipping with excitement!

I wanted something more casual - something different yet suit my very beginner fingers. Therefore I decided to go with the casual pose of a wedding couple lying down on the bed of the 2nd tier with a love trunk that holds the significance of their name and a blossoms growing on the tree of love.

Congratulations to Sui Chin & Cheong Chin.
They were speechless with wedding cake design and the figurine toppers!
I'm so glad they loved it :)
